The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some owners may comment about a coolant leak coming from the engine compartment. Upon inspection you may find that an expansion (freeze) cup plug may be missing from the side of the engine block.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Metro Detroit Dealers:

Engineering is looking for an engine in the "Metro Detroit" (Southeast Michigan) area that is missing an expansion plug. Dealers in the "Metro Detroit" area that have such a vehicle should contact Jim Kelly at (586) 492-5612. He will assist in making arrangements for Engineering to review the vehicle at your Metro Detroit area location.

All Other Dealers:

Do not attempt to install a new expansion plug. Instead you must contact Jim Kelly at (586) 492-5612. He will obtain the necessary information from you and will give you the recommended repair procedure.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
