The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Certain 2001-2008 model year vehicles equipped with OnStar® may exhibit a condition to which the vehicle owner/operator would be unaware of resulting in repeated incomplete calls to the OnStar being made. To correct this condition the OnStar Module (VCIM) must be replaced
OnStar® will notify affected customers by mail and direct them to contact their dealership service department for repairs
Dealers should, upon presentation of the customer communication, order a replacement module through Autocraft Electronic in the US and MASS electronics in Canada. Dealers must arrange for the vehicle to be repaired within 30 days of the receipt of the new replacement VCIM,
A list of affected VINs has been provide to the Electronic Service Centers (ESC). Dealers in the U.S. should contact Autocraft Electronics via the web at www.autocraft.com, and select the catalog item that contains this bulletin number or call 1-800-336-3998. Canadian dealers should contact MASS Electronics at 1-877-410-6277.
DO NOT call GM Technical Assistance Center (TAC) for replacement approval. Autocraft Electronics and MASS Electronics will be responsible for verifying that the subject vehicle is a candidate for a replacement VIU/VCIM.
Important: After replacing the VIU/VCIM, it is essential to program the OnStar® system per the published Service Information procedures. Failure to program the system will result in an additional customer visit for repair.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
