Short Trip/City Scheduled Maintenance
Follow the Short Trip/City Scheduled Maintenance if any one of these conditions is true for your vehicle:
| • | Most trips are less than 5 miles (8 km). This is particularly important when outside temperatures are below freezing. |
| • | Most trips include extensive idling, such as frequent driving in stop-and-go traffic. |
| • | If the vehicle is used for delivery service, police, taxi, or other commercial application. |
One of the reasons you should follow this schedule if you operate your vehicle under any of these conditions is that these conditions cause engine oil to break down sooner.

Long Trip/Highway Scheduled Maintenance
Follow this scheduled maintenance only if none of the conditions from the Short Trip/City Scheduled Maintenance are true. Do not use this schedule if the vehicle is driven in a dusty area or used off paved roads. Use the Short Trip/City schedule for these conditions.
Driving a vehicle with a fully warmed engine under highway conditions will cause engine oil to break down slower.

Scheduled Maintenance Cadillac Models
To maintain the ride, handling, and performance of your vehicle, it is important that the first tire rotation service be performed when the vehicle has 5,000 to 8,000 miles (8 000 to 13 000 km). Check tires for inflation pressures and wear. See "Tires" in your owner manual. If tire rotation is recommended for your vehicle, rotate tires. See "Tire Inspection and Rotation" in your owner manual and At Least Once a Month .
When the change engine oil light/message comes on, it means that service is required for your vehicle. See "Engine Oil Life System" in your owner manual. Have your vehicle serviced as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1 000 km). It is possible that, if you are driving under the best conditions, the engine oil life system may not indicate that vehicle service is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset. Your dealer/retailer has trained service technicians who will perform this work using genuine parts and reset the system.
If the engine oil life system is ever reset accidentally, you must service your vehicle within 3,000 miles (5 000 km) since your last service. Remember to reset the oil life system whenever the oil is changed. See "Engine Oil Life System" in your owner manual for information on the Engine Oil Life System and resetting the system.
When the change engine oil light/message appears, the following services, checks, and inspections are required:

Scheduled Maintenance Solstice
If your vehicle has a Driver Information Center (DIC), it also has the Engine Oil Life System, a computer system that lets you know when to change the engine oil and filter. This is based on engine revolutions and engine temperature and not on mileage. Based on driving conditions, the mileage at which an oil change will be indicated can vary considerably. For the oil life system to work properly, you must reset the system every time the oil is changed.
When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE OIL SOON message on the Driver Information Center (DIC) will come on. See "DIC Warnings and Messages" in your owner manual. Change the oil as soon as possible within the next two times you stop for fuel. See "Engine Oil" in your owner manual. It is possible that, if you are driving under the best conditions, the oil life system might not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset. It is also important to check the oil regularly and keep it at the proper level.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, you must change the oil at 3,000 miles (5 000 km) since your last oil change. Remember to reset the oil life system whenever the oil is changed. See "Engine Oil Life System" in your owner manual for information on resetting the system.

Generally, it is recommended that your first service be Maintenance I, your second service be Maintenance II, and that you alternate Maintenance I and Maintenance II thereafter. However, in some cases, Maintenance II may be required more often.
Maintenance I
Use Maintenance I if the change engine oil message comes on within 10 months since the vehicle was purchased or Maintenance II was performed.
Maintenance II
Use Maintenance II if the previous service performed was Maintenance I. Always use Maintenance II whenever the message comes on 10 months or more since the last service or if the message has not come on at all for one year.
