Preliminary Procedure

  1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  3. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement.

Bolt (Qty: 2)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
10 N·m (89 lb in)

Procedure

Clean the water inlet and engine block surfaces.

Special Tools

J 38185

Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1664571 Size: SH
  1. Remove the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling
  3. Using the J 38185
  4. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing.

    5. Object Number: 611039 Size: SH
  5. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.

    6. Object Number: 611035 Size: SH
  6. Remove the thermostat housing, thermostat, and gasket from the water pump housing.
  7. Discard the old thermostat housing gasket.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 611035 Size: SH
  1. Install a NEW thermostat housing gasket into the water pump housing.
  2. Install the thermostat into the water pump housing.
  3. Install the thermostat housing.

    4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 611039 Size: SH
  4. Install the thermostat housing bolts.

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).


    Object Number: 1664571 Size: SH
  5. Install the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing.
  6. Using the J 38185
  7. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling
  8. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
