Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement.
  3. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the rack and pinion and hang from the exhaust pipe. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement.
  4. Remove the power steering return hose from the rack and pinion and hang from the exhaust pipe. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement.

  5. Object Number: 767120  Size: SH
  6. Support the transaxle with a transaxle support stand.
  7. Remove the rear transaxle mount and bracket bolts then position the mount and bracket aside. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement.
  8. Position a drain pan under the forward servo cover.

  9. Object Number: 767121  Size: SH
  10. Using a long screwdriver in order to pry against the vehicle frame. Hold the servo assembly compressed.

  11. Object Number: 164777  Size: SH
  12. Remove the 3 bolts attaching the servo cover to the transaxle case.
  13. Remove the long screwdriver. The servo assembly will push the servo cover out. If the servo cover does not push out, tap it with a rubber mallet.
  14. Remove the forward servo cover O-ring.
  15. Remove the servo piston assembly.
  16. Remove the servo spring.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 164777  Size: SH
  1. Install the servo spring.
  2. Install the servo piston assembly.
  3. Install the forward servo cover O-ring.
  4. Install the forward servo cover.

  5. Object Number: 767121  Size: SH
  6. Using a long screwdriver in order to pry against the vehicle frame. Hold the servo assembly compressed.
  7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Install the 3 forward servo cover attaching bolts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the forward servo cover attaching bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  10. Remove the drain pan from under the forward servo cover.
  11. Align the rear transaxle mount and bracket then Install the mount and bracket bolts. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement.
  12. Remove the transaxle support stand.
  13. Install the power steering pressure hose. Refer to Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement.
  14. Install the power steering return hose. Refer to Power Steering Return Hose Replacement.
  15. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
  17. Fill the transaxle to the proper level. Refer to Fluid Capacity Specifications.
  18. Inspect the transaxle fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check.
  19. Note: It is recommended that transmission adaptive pressure (TAP) information be reset.

    Resetting the TAP values using a scan tool will erase all learned values in all cells. As a result, The ECM, PCM or TCM will need to relearn TAP values. Transmission performance may be affected as new TAP values are learned.

  20. Reset the TAP values. Refer to Transmission Adaptive Functions.
