- The exhaust system hangers minimize noise transfer. Vibration
and noise can be transmitted into the vehicle under the following conditions:
| • | System contact with the body |
- Position the clamps and
the insulator so that the hanger is vertical, when the exhaust system is at
operating temperature.
- Inspect that the brackets are horizontal.
- Use heat in front of the rear suspension, in order to reposition
the pipes if necessary.
- Allow pipes to cool before touching them.
- Do not use an acetylene torch near the fuel tank.
- Inspect that the support
brackets are horizontal.
- Inspect that the clearance between the frame members and the floor
pan is a minimum of 15 mm (5/8 in) after the following procedures:
- Tighten all clamps according to the specified torques. Refer to
Fastener Tightening Specifications
.
- Clearance is needed in order to avoid the following conditions:
| • | Overheating of the floor pan |
| • | Damage to the passenger compartment carpet |
- Inspect that the weight of the system is evenly distributed according
to the equal deflection at each hanger on the following components:
- Some vehicles may exhibit exhaust system misalignment due to an
improper installation process of the front pipe (L36 and L67). The front pipe
(L36 and L67), which when installed low in the assembly, can pull the exhaust
system forward and hit part of the body, or close enough such that when the
vehicle goes over a bump it will contact the body. In order to properly correct
the condition, reinstall the rear pipe. Refer to

. The exhaust system should move into proper
alignment.
- Ensure that the exhaust system has the proper clearances. Refer
to
