SOME FLOOR CONSOLES BUILT BETWEEN JUNE 1997 AND SEPTEMBER 1997 MAY EXHIBIT A SQUEAKING OR STICKING CONDITION WHEN OPENED AND CLOSED. THIS CONDITION HAS SINCE BEEN CORRECTED IN PRODUCTION BY BEVELING THE EDGE OF THE CONSOLE BASE.
TO CORRECT THIS CONDITION, DO NOT REPLACE THE CONSOLE ASSEMBLY. PROCEED AS FOLLOWS:
STEP #1: - LOOSEN SCREWS BETWEEN HINGE AND LID. - SLIDE THE LID UP TO INCREASE THE CLEARANCE TO THE BASE. - IF PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, GO TO STEP #2.
STEP #2: - REMOVE LID FROM HINGE. - REMOVE BIN FROM CONSOLE. - REMOVE HINGE FROM CONSOLE. - PEEL VINYL UP FROM UNDERNEATH HINGE AREA. - FILE EXPOSED PLASTIC UNDERNEATH, ALONG THE LENGTH WHERE THE LID WOULD RUB (ABOUT 270 MM). - REMOVE PLASTIC AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE. - REMOVE ABOUT 4 MM OF MATERIAL BEING CAREFUL TO LEAVE THE ORIGINAL OUTSIDE EDGE INTACT (SO THAT THE REPAIR IS NOT VISIBLE FROM THE PASSENGER SEAT). - REWRAP THE VINYL AROUND THE EDGE AFFIXING IT WITH A SUITABLE ADHESIVE (SPRAY CONTACT ADHESIVE WORKS WELL) AND/OR STAPLES (3/16 OR SHORTER). - ENSURE THAT THE VINYL IS STRETCHED TIGHT. IF PROBLEMS ARE STILL EVIDENT, CALL TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE.
