Circuit Description

The circuit for the left rear power window consists of the following components:

    • The left rear power window switch
    • The rear door module (RDM)
    • The simple bus interface (SBI)
    • The driver door module (DDM)

The left rear power window switch provides input to the RDM. The RDM contains a software program that samples the window switch and reports all switch activity as SBI messages to the DDM. The actual diagnostic software program for DTC B2205 is contained in the DDM. The diagnostic program is run at least once every 300 milliseconds. Faults involving the DDM or the SBI may set other DTCs and affect the operation of the power door locks and the outside rearview mirrors.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC B2205 is set current if the simple bus interface (SBI) messages from the rear door module (RDM) indicate that the left rear power window switch has been in the DOWN position for 15 consecutive seconds. This diagnostic will not run if either DTC B1982 (battery voltage high) or DTC B1983 (battery voltage low) are current.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

This DTC is current only when the fault is present. While DTC B2205 is current, the rear door module (RDM) ignores actuation of the left rear power window switch.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC is changed from current to history when either of the following occur:
      • The window DOWN input cycles off.
      • The power mode is changed from OFF to RUN.
    • The history DTC clears after 50 ignition cycles.
    • Use a scan tool in order to clear the history DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

    • A history DTC is evidence of an intermittent problem.
    • When DTC B2205 is current, cycle the ignition switch from OFF to RUN. If the DTC is still present, perform the following diagnostic procedure.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. Perform the Power Door Diagnostic System Check prior to continuing the diagnosis of this DTC.

  2. This step tests for other current set DTCs.

  3. This step verifies the operation of the rear door power window switches.

  4. This step tests CKT 1187 for a short to ground.
