The lip seals seal the rotating shafts. The lip seals require special treatment. The lip seals are used on the following components:

Perform the following procedures when leaks are found at the steering gear, at the pinion shaft, and at the pump drive shaft:

1. Inspect the sealing surface.
2. For slight corrosion in the lip seal contact zone, clean the surface with a crocus cloth.
3. Replace the seal.

Replace the shaft only if severe pitting is found and the leakage cannot be stopped by cleaning the shaft.
