Leaks may sometimes be easily located. Seepage-type leaks may be more difficult to locate.

To locate seepage leaks perform the following procedure:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Wipe the following components dry:
  3. • The rack and pinion gear
    • The power steering pump
    • The power steering hoses
    • The connections
  4. Inspect the fluid level in the pump reservoir.
  5. Add power steering fluid to the pump reservoir if necessary.
  6. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Start the engine.
  7. Important: Do not hold the steering wheel at a stop for any length of time. This may damage the power steering pump.

  8. Turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times.
  9. Have an assistant turn the steering wheel while you inspect for the leak.

  10. Locate the extract area of the leak.
