Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

Inspect the 2A SWITCH fuse in the steering column fuse block.

Is the fuse OK?

Caution: When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, you must disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector C4.
  2. Measure the voltage from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector C4 terminal A (harness side) to ground.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

10-15 V

Go to Step  9

Repair a short to ground in the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil or the steering wheel control.

Did you complete the repair?

Repair an open or a short to ground in CKT 43 (YEL).

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Press and hold the steering wheel control volume DOWN switch.
  2. Measure the resistance from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector C4 terminal A to terminal C (steering column side).

Is the resistance within the specified range?

1408-1720 ohms

Go to Step  12

  1. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil connector C3.
  2. Press and hold the steering wheel control volume DOWN switch.
  3. Measure the resistance from the steering wheel control connector terminal A to terminal C

Is the resistance within the specified range?

1408-1720 ohms

Replace the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil.

Inspect CKT 1011 (LT GRN) for an open, a short to ground, or a high resistance.

Is CKT 1011 OK?
