Turn the rear compartment lid key in the key cylinder.

Does the rear compartment lid open?

Repair the rear compartment lid lock mechanical components. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Lock Cylinder Replacement or Rear Compartment Lid Latch Striker Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Inspect the TRK REL fuse in the rear fuse block.

Is the fuse OK?

--

Go to Step 6

Locate and repair the short to ground in the TRK REL fuse circuit.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Place the gear selector in the PARK position.
  2. Set the valet switch to UNLOCK.
  3. Remove the rear compartment lid release relay.
  4. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) between the following locations:
  5. • The relay terminal  86 and ground.
    • The relay terminal 30 and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range at both terminals?

10-15V

Replace the rear fuse block.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a DMM between the following relay terminals:
  2. • Relay terminal 86
    • Relay terminal 85
  3. Depress the rear compartment lid release button on the keyless entry transmitter.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

Momentarily connect a fused jumper between the following locations:

    • Relay terminal 30
    • Relay terminal 87

Does the rear compartment lid open?

  1. Inspect the relay socket for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release relay.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Leave the fused jumper in place across the following terminals:
  2. • Terminal 30
    • Terminal 87
  3. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator connector.
  4. Connect a DMM between the actuator connector terminal A and ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified range?

10-15V

Repair the open in CKT 56 (BLK/WHT).

Is the repair complete?

  1. Remove the fused jumper from the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Using a DMM set to ohms scale, measure the resistance between the rear compartment lid release actuator connector terminal B and ground.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

Less than 5ohms

  1. Inspect the rear compartment lid release actuator connector for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the actuator. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

Repair the open in CKT 650 (BLK).

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Select the RFA special functions menu.
  3. Select output control.
  4. Select the rear compartment lid release.
  5. Using the scan tool, command the rear compartment lid release output.

Does the rear compartment lid release on command?

Inspect the CKT 1344 (LT BLU) for an open.

Is the circuit OK?

Repair the CKT 1344 (LT BLU).

Replace the remote function actuator (RFA) module. Refer to Remote Control Door Lock Receiver Replacement in Keyless Entry.

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Release System Check .

    • The rear compartment lid release operates normally from the keyless entry transmitter.

Verify that the lid release valet lockout feature is set to UNLOCK as follows.

  1. Insert the ignition key into the rear compartment lid release switch (mounted on the IP).
  2. Turn the key to the UNLOCK position.

Was the valet lockout set to UNLOCK?

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Select the body control module (SBM).
  3. Using the BCM data list inputs function on the scan tool, observe the state of the rear compartment lid release switch input.

Is the input ON when the rear compartment lid release button is pressed and OFF when the button is released?

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch connector.
  2. Using a J 39200 digital multimeter (DMM) set to ohms scale, measure the resistance between the switch connector terminal A and ground.

Is the measured resistance in the specified range?

Less than 5ohms

Repair the open CKT 450 (BLK).

Is the repair complete?

  1. Connect a jumper across the rear compartment lid release switch connector terminals A and B.
  2. Using the BCM data list inputs function on the scan tool, observe the state of the rear compartment lid release switch input.

Is the input ON with the jumper in place and OFF when the jumper removed?

  1. Check the rear compartment lid release switch connector for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the rear compartment lid release switch. Refer to Fuel/Rear Compartment Release Switch Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.

Check CKT 1576 (BLK) for an open.

Is the circuit OK?

  1. Inspect the body control module (SBM) connectors for poor terminal contact.
  2. If OK, replace the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement and Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration in Body Control System.

  1. Make sure any components removed during diagnosis are installed in place and that all connectors are connected.
  2. Repeat the system check. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Release System Check .
