The theft deterrent (VTD) module performs an internal test to determine if a valid key is present every 300 milliseconds. If the test determines that a invalid key is present the VTD module will indicate a invalid coded key is current.
At the beginning of the ignition cycle the VTD module detects a invalid coded key.
• | Stores a DTC B2960 in the VTD module memory. |
• | Security indicator is illuminated. |
• | The VTD module detects a valid coded key. |
• | The history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles. |
• | Use a scan tool in order to clear a history DTC. |
Check all vehicle ignition keys and inspect the invalid key(s) for damage.

Perform the Theft Deterrent Diagnostic System Check before continuing with the diagnosis of this DTC.
Clear all DTCs and cycle ignition to check that the DTC did not falsely set.
Clear all DTCs after the repair procedure is complete.
