Body Control System Schematics

Circuit Description

The battery voltage is supplied to the SBM at connector C1 terminal C9.

The SBM determines if the voltage is within a valid operating range.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC B1982 sets when the battery voltage is above 15.5 volts.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • DTC B1982 stores in the SBM memory.
    • The SBM will not respond to any manual or memory inputs when the voltage is greater than 15.5 volts.
    • No driver warning message displays for this DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC B1982 clears when the battery voltage is above 15.0 volts.

Diagnostic Aids

    • The DTC disables the setting of most other SBM DTCs.
    • DTC B1982 may set if the vehicle is placed on a battery charger set on boost or fast charge.

  1. Connect a scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  2. Turn the ignition switch to OFF.
  3. Select DATA from the SBM DATA LIST.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-15 V

Go to Step 5

  1. Disconnect the SBM connector C1.
  2. Measure the voltage between the SBM connector C1 terminal C9 and ground.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

9-15 V

Go to Step 5

Repair the charging system.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Clear the DTC.
  2. Cycle the ignition.

Is the DTC still present?

  1. Replace the SBM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement
  2. Reprogram the SBM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration
