Perform the following brake caliper inspections:

  1. Inspect the outside of the brake caliper for cracks, excessive wear, and damage. Replace if necessary.

  2. Object Number: 157167  Size: SH
  3. Inspect the brake caliper assembly for signs of brake fluid leakage around the piston dust boot and on the brake pads. Overhaul or replace the caliper if there are any signs of leakage. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Overhaul or Rear Brake Caliper Overhaul .
  4. Inspect the piston dust boot for proper seating in the caliper body.
  5. Inspect the piston dust boot for holes and tears. Replace as necessary.
  6. Inspect the mounting bolts and the sleeves for any corrosion.
  7. Replace any corroded bolts or sleeves. Do not attempt to polish away the corrosion.
  8. Using a C-clamp, bottom the caliper piston into the caliper bore. The movement of the piston should be smooth and even as it slides into the caliper bore. If the piston is frozen or difficult to bottom, the piston and/or the bore is rusted or corroded, than the caliper must be overhauled or replaced.
