Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 39500-B A/C Refrigerant Recovery, Recycling and Recharging (ACR4) System


    Object Number: 583979  Size: SH
  1. Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  3. Disconnect the evaporator hose from the retainer.

  4. Object Number: 583971  Size: SH
  5. Remove the evaporator hose retainer.

  6. Object Number: 583989  Size: SH
  7. Remove the A/C compressor hose from the accumulator.
  8. Remove the accumulator hose from the accumulator.

  9. Object Number: 378335  Size: SH
  10. Remove the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.

  11. Object Number: 583992  Size: SH
  12. Remove the accumulator from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 39400 Electronic Halogen Leak Detector

  1. Fill the new accumulator with the proper amount of refrigerant oil. Refer to Refrigerant Oil Distribution .

  3. Install the accumulator into the bracket.

  4. Object Number: 378335  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the accumulator bracket retaining bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

  7. Install the accumulator hose to the accumulator.
  8. Important: Inspect the seal washers for damage before reinstalling the A/C lines and hoses.

    If any damage is noted during the inspection, the suspect seal must be replaced.

    Flat washer type seals do not require lubrication.

  9. Install the A/C compressor hose to the accumulator.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the accumulator connections to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  11. Install the evaporator hose retainer.

  12. Object Number: 583979  Size: SH
  13. Install the evaporator hose to the retainer.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  15. Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  16. Test the A/C system for leaks using the J 39400 . Refer to Leak Testing .
