Push each button on the garage door opener (GDO).

Do both buttons illuminate the LED?

Go to Step 4

Do any buttons illuminate the LED?

Go to Step 8

  1. Remove the garage door opener (GDO) leaving the harness connector connected. Refer to Garage Door Opener Replacement .
  2. Place the GDO on the J 43241 Keyless Entry Tester. Refer to J 4321 Placement.
  3. Push each button on the transmitter.

Does the J 43241 verify each button when pressed?

Go to Step 9

Test the GDO battery positive voltage circuit for an open, high resistance or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Test the GDO ground circuit for an open or high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connection at the GDO harness connector. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the GDO. Refer to Garage Door Opener Replacement .

Program the GDO. Refer to Garage Door Opener Programming - Universal .

Return the vehicle to the customer in order to verify the repair. Advise the customer to call Homelink® at 800-355-3515.

Does the GDO operate properly for the customer?
