Did you perform the Instrument Cluster Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Place the gear shift lever in the following gears:
    5. • PARK
    • REVERSE
    • NEUTRAL
    • DRIVE
  5. Observe the Transmission Range parameter in the powertrain control module (PCM) data display.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Transmission Range parameter is the same as the PRNDL display for all gears?

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check Engine Controls - 3.8L

Go to Step 3

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
