Headliner Loose/Sags at Forward Edge of Sunroof Opening (Install Hook/Loop Mtrl)

Subject:Headliner Loose/Sags at Forward Edge of Sunroof Opening (Install Hook and Loop Material to Headliner and Roof Panel)

Models:2000 Buick Park Avenue, Ultra
with Sunroof (RPO CF5)


Condition

Some customers may comment that the headliner is loose or sags at the forward edge of the sunroof opening.

Cause

This condition may be due to the unsupported weight of the overhead console.

Correction

Install an assembly of foam tape and hook and loop materials between the rear edge of the overhead console and the roof panel using the following repair procedure.

Repair Procedure

Important: It is important that the height of the foam tape is approximately 12.7 mm (½ in).

 

The following materials are required:

    • Two 63.5 mm x 25.4 mm x 19 mm (2½ in x 1 in x ¼ in) strips of self adhesive foam tape, such as 3M® Black Vinyl Foam Tape, P/N 3320, or equivalent.
    • One 63.5 mm x 25.4 mm (2½ in x 1 in) strip of self adhesive hook and loop material, such as 3M® Dual Lock™, P/N 6483, or equivalent.

  1. Assemble the following materials:
    2. 1.1. Remove the backing paper from one foam tape strip (1) and apply it to the non-adhesive side of the other foam tape strip (2).
    1.2. Remove the backing paper from the hook material strip (3) and attach it to the non-adhesive side of the foam tape strips (1).
    1.3. Install the loop (fuzzy) material strip (4) to the hook material. Do not remove the backing paper at this time.
  2. Gain access to the top of the overhead console.

    3. If present, remove the foam piece from the rear edge of the overhead console.

  3. Remove the backing paper from the foam tape strip and install the assembly of materials to the rear edge (5) of the overhead console (6). Remove the backing paper from the loop (fuzzy) material strip.
  4. Remove the backing paper from the loop (fuzzy) material strip and carefully press the headliner up to the roof panel.
  5. Ensure the headliner is properly installed.
