Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the electrical connector from the brake fluid level sensor.

  2. Object Number: 177410  Size: SH
  3. Remove the master cylinder mounting nuts (3).
  4. Important: It is not necessary to disconnect the the brake pipes from the master cylinder.

  5. Move the master cylinder forward just enough to clear the studs on the booster (2). This will flex the brake pipes slightly. Do not bend or distort the pipes.
  6. Remove the washer solvent reservoir. Refer to Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  7. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum check valve from the brake booster and position the hose and check valve aside.
  8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EGR valve and position out of the way.
  9. Remove the left closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.
  10. Lower and secure the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  12. Remove the vacuum brake booster pushrod retainer (3) from the brake pedal clevis pin.
  13. Remove the foam spacer (2) from the brake pedal clevis pin.
  14. Disconnect the pushrod (1) from the brake pedal.

  16. Remove the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts (1).

  17. Object Number: 177411  Size: SH
  18. Remove the vacuum brake booster from the vehicle.
  19. Remove the brake booster mounting gasket, if gasket replacement is necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the brake booster mounting gasket to the booster, if removed previously.
  2. Install the brake booster to the vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 695564  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts (1).
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pedal assembly to booster stud mounting nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

  6. Raise the steering column and install it into position. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

  7. Object Number: 695567  Size: SH
  8. Apply a small amount of lubricant, GM P/N 12346293 or equivalent to the clevis pin of the brake pedal.
  9. Connect the brake booster pushrod (1) to the brake pedal clevis pin.
  10. Install the foam spacer (2) to the brake pedal clevis pin.
  11. Install the retainer clip (3) to the brake pedal clevis pin.
  12. Install the left closeout panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages and Console.

  13. Object Number: 177410  Size: SH
  14. Install the washer solvent reservoir. Refer to Washer Pump/Reservoir Replacement in Wipers/Washer Systems.
  15. Install the master cylinder (1) to the booster (2). Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .
  16. Reposition and connect the vacuum check valve to the brake booster.
  17. Connect the electrical connector to the fluid level sensor.
  18. Connect the electrical connector to the EGR valve.
