Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement VIN K

Removal Procedure

    Important: When removing or installing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) the ignition must be turned off.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.

  2. Object Number: 868125  Size: SH
  3. Remove the screws from the air cleaner top cover.
  4. Remove the air cleaner top cover.
  5. Notice: Refer to Handling Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive Parts Notice in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Powertrain Control Module and Electrostatic Discharge Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Carefully remove the PCM from the air cleaner housing and carefully position the PCM aside protecting the PCM from electrostatic discharge and/or impact.

  7. Object Number: 867780  Size: SH
  8. Remove the air cleaner element. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement .
  9. Remove the screws securing the air cleaner assembly to the radiator support.
  10. Remove the nut, if equipped, from the stud on the inner fender.
  11. Remove the air cleaner assembly from the engine compartment.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 867780  Size: SH
  1. Install the air cleaner assembly to the engine compartment over the stud on the inner fender.
  2. Important: VIN K has a black drain tube under the PCM housing and a black inlet area.

  3. Inspect to see that the coolant recovery hose is not trapped under the air cleaner assembly.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the screws securing the air cleaner assembly to the radiator support.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  7. Secure the air cleaner assembly to the stud on the inner fender with the nut, if equipped.
  8. 4.1. Push to secure the nut.
    4.2. Assure that the nut is fully seated.

    Important: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct must be lined up to the throttle body when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect air flow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveability concern.

  9. Install the air cleaner element. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement .

  10. Object Number: 868125  Size: SH
  11. Carefully Install the PCM into the air cleaner housing. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement .
  12. Install the air cleaner top cover.
  13. Install the screws in the air cleaner top cover.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement VIN 1

Removal Procedure

    Important: When removing or installing the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) the ignition must be turned off.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.

  2. Object Number: 868125  Size: SH
  3. Remove the screws from the air cleaner top cover.
  4. Remove the air cleaner top cover.
  5. Notice: Refer to Handling Electrostatic Discharge Sensitive Parts Notice in the Preface section.

    Notice: Refer to Powertrain Control Module and Electrostatic Discharge Notice in the Preface section.

  6. Carefully remove the PCM from the air cleaner housing and carefully position the PCM aside protecting the PCM from electrostatic discharge and/or impact.

  8. Remove the air cleaner element. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement .
  9. Remove the screws securing the air cleaner assembly to the radiator support.
  10. Remove the nut, if equipped, from the stud on the inner fender.
  11. Remove the air cleaner assembly from the engine compartment.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 867780  Size: SH
  1. Install the air cleaner assembly to the engine compartment over the stud on the inner fender.
  2. Important: VIN 1 has a white drain tube under the PCM housing and a white inlet area.

  3. Inspect to see that the coolant recovery hose is not trapped under the air cleaner assembly.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.     Tighten the screws to 4 N·m (35 lb in).

  7. Secure the air cleaner assembly to the stud on the inner fender with the nut, if equipped.
  8. 4.1. Push to secure the nut.
    4.2. Assure that the nut is fully seated.

    Important: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the intake air duct must be lined up to the throttle body when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect air flow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveability concern.

  9. Install the air cleaner element. Refer to Air Cleaner Element Replacement .

  11. Carefully Install the PCM into the air cleaner housing. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement .
  12. Install the air cleaner top cover.
  13. Install the screws in the air cleaner top cover.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).
