J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Important: The A/C refrigerant filter, ACDelco P/N 52474433, must be installed into the A/C evaporator tube (liquid line) between the condenser and the evaporator. The installation of this in-line filter eliminates the need for flushing the A/C system.

  1. Disconnect the A/C line clip.

  2. Object Number: 777503 Size: SH
  3. Open the A/C line at the orifice location (1).
  4. Wipe the A/C line with a clean cloth to prevent contamination.
  5. Mark the filter location on the A/C line with two marks, 50.8 mm (1.99 in) apart.
  6. Cut the A/C line at the marked points.
  7. Important: Do not allow metal burrs to fall into the A/C line.

  8. Deburr the cut locations.

  9. Object Number: 717266 Size: SH
  10. Remove the nuts, ferrules, and O-rings from the in-line filter.
  11. Important: Do not install the O-rings at this step.

  12. Push the nuts and ferrules over each end of the liquid line.
  13. Install the ferrules with the small end toward the nuts.

  14. Install the liquid line into the filter, making sure to bottom out the line inside the filter.
  15. Repeat this step for both ends of the filter.

  16. While holding the line bottomed out into the filter, securely tighten the nuts.
  17. Remove the filter from the A/C line.
  18. Lubricate the O-rings with 525 viscosity oil.
  19. Install the O-rings onto the A/C line.
  20. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  21. Install the filter, with the arrow pointing toward the evaporator, making sure to keep the line bottomed out.
  22. Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

    Object Number: 777503 Size: SH
  23. Connect the A/C line at the orifice location (1).
  24. Tighten
Tighten the fitting to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

  25. Clip the line into the retainer.
  26. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  27. Leak test the in-line filter fittings and the orifice location using the J 39400-A .
