Scan Tool Data Definitions

The IPC Scan Tool Data Definitions contains a brief description of all IPC related parameters available on the scan tool.

8 Digit GM Part Number: The scan tool displays the GM 8 digit part number of the instrument panel cluster (IPC).

Air Bag Lamp : The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the air bag indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Battery Voltage: The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured at the battery positive voltage circuit of the BCM.

Brake Fluid Level: The scan tool displays Ok/Low. The IPC monitors the circuit of the brake fluid level switch. A open switch is displayed as Low.

Coolant Hot Lamp : The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the hot coolant temperature indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Coolant Temperature: The scan tool displays -40°C (-40°F) to 140°C (284°F). The PCM monitors the voltage at the signal circuit of the engine coolant temperature sensor. The PCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC indicating coolant temperature.

Cruise Lamp : The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the cruise indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Display Fuel Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the signal circuit of the DIC Fuel Info switch. A closed switch is displayed as On.

Display Gage Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the signal circuit of the DIC Gage Info switch. A closed switch is displayed as On.

Display Odometer Switch : The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the signal circuit of the DIC ODO/TRIP switch. A closed switch is displayed as On.

Driver Seatbelt: The scan tool displays Buckled/Unbuckled. The BCM monitors the signal circuit of the driver seat belt switch.

ECT Sensor: The scan tool displays -40°C (-40°F) to 140°C (284°F). The PCM monitors the voltage at the signal circuit of the engine coolant temperature sensor. The resistance is inversely proportional to the engine coolant temperature.

Engine Oil Level Switch: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch. A open switch is displayed as Low.

Engine Oil Life Remaining: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The PCM calculates the oil life data.

Engine Oil Pressure Sensor: The scan tool displays 0-19 volts. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil pressure sensor.

Engine Speed: The scan tool displays 0-9999 RPM. The PCM calculates the engine speed data using the engine speed sensor input.

Engine Speed: The scan tool displays 0-9999 RPM. The IPC monitors the engine speed signal circuit from the PCM.

English/Metric Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the signal circuit of the DIC Eng/Met button on the DIC switch. A closed switch is displayed as On.

Fuel Level: The scan tool displays liters. The IPC calculates the fuel level based on the signal circuit of the fuel level sensor.

Fuel Tank Level Remaining: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The IPC calculates the amount of fuel remaining in the tank based on the signal circuit from the fuel level sensor and sends a class 2 message to the PCM indicating the fuel level remaining.

High Beam Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the high beam switch as detected by the IPC. The IPC monitors the signal circuit of the high beam switch.

Ignition 0: The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured at the ignition 0 circuit of the IPC.

Ignition 0: The scan tool displays On/Off. This indicates whether or not there is ignition 0 voltage at the BCM.

Ignition 1: The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured at the ignition 1 circuit of the IPC.

Ignition 1 : The scan tool displays On/Off. This indicates whether or not there is ignition 1 voltage at the BCM.

Ignition 3 : The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured at the ignition 3 circuit of the IPC.

Ignition State: The scan tool displays Off/Run/Start. The IPC monitors the ignition switch to determine the current position.

Ignition Voltage: The scan tool displays 0-25.5  volts. The voltage measured when the ignition is turned on at the BCM.

Key In Ignition: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The remote function actuation (RFA) module monitors the ignition key alarm switch. A closed switch is displayed as Yes.

Key In Ignition: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The body control module (BCM) monitors the chime control circuit. The scan tool displays Yes when the BCM detects low signal voltage.

Low Coolant Level: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The BCM monitors the signal circuit of the coolant level switch. A closed switch is displayed as OK.

Low Fuel Lamp : The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the low fuel indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Lt Turning Signal Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the left turn signal supply voltage circuit. A active turn signal toggles between On and Off.

Oil Pressure Lamp : The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the engine oil pressure indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Park Brake Switch : The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the signal circuit of the park brake switch. A closed switch is displayed as On.

Park Lamp Input: The scan tool displays On/Off. The BCM monitors the signal circuit of the headlamp switch. A closed switch is displayed an On. The switch is closed when the headlamp switch is in the headlamp position or the park position.

PROM ID: The scan tool displays the 4 digit number that identifies the PROM ID of the module.

Reset Switch : The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the signal circuit of the DIC RESET switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Rt Turning Signal Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the right turn signal supply voltage circuit. A active turn signal toggles between On and Off.

Seat Belt Lamp: The scan tool displays Active/Inactive. The state of the fasten safety belt indicator as indicated by the IPC.

Service Veh Soon Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Traction Off: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the TRACTION OFF indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Vehicle Speed : The scan tool displays 0-255 km/h (0-159 mph). The IPC monitors the vehicle speed signal circuit from the PCM.

Vehicle Speed Sensor: The scan tool displays 0-255 km/h (0-159 mph). The PCM monitors the vehicle speed sensor signal circuit.

Volt Lamp : The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the Battery indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Year Module Built: The scan tool displays the 4 digit number which corresponds to the year that module was manufactured.
