Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Support the lower control arm with a jack stand.
- Disconnect the Automatic Level Control air tube from the shock absorber.
- Remove the shock absorber lower retaining bolts.
- Remove the trunk trim to gain access to the shock upper mounting nuts.
- Remove the shock absorber upper cover.
- Remove the shock absorber upper retaining nuts.
- Remove the shock absorber reinforcement.
- Remove the shock from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the shock absorber to the vehicle.
- Install the shock absorber, reinforcement, and the retaining nuts.
- Install the trunk trim.
- Install the shock absorber lower retaining bolts.
- Connect the Automatic Level Control air tube to the shock absorber.
- Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten the shock absorber upper retaining nuts to 20 N·m
(15 lb ft).
Install the shock absorber cover.
Tighten
Tighten the shock absorber lower retaining bolts to 24 N·m
(18 lb ft).
