Tools Required

J 24319-B Steering Linkage and Tie Rod Puller

1. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.



4. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.



5. Disconnect the power steering return hose from the power steering pump .
6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the power steering pump.
7. Remove the antilock brake wiring harness bracket.



8. Remove the right outer tie rod retaining nut (3).



9. Using J 24319-B remove the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.
10. Remove the right outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.



11. Remove the power steering pump retaining bolts.
12. Remove the power steering pump.
13. Remove the power steering pulley as necessary. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
14. Remove the power steering pump reservoir as necessary. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .

1. Install the power steering pump reservoir as necessary. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement - Off Vehicle .
2. Remove the power steering pulley as necessary. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .



3. Install the power steering pump to the engine.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

4. Install the power steering pump retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the power steering pump retaining bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

5. Connect the wiring harness to the power steering pump.
6. Install the antilock brake wiring harness bracket.



7. Install the right outer tie rod (1) to the steering knuckle (2).
8. Install the outer tie rod retaining nut.

Tighten
Tighten the outer tie rod retaining nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft) plus 180 degrees.




9. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.

Tighten
Tighten the power steering pressure hose to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).




10. Connect the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
14. Inspect the power steering system for leaks.
