Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.
  3. Remove the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .

  4. Object Number: 460600  Size: SH
  5. Remove the power steering return hose (4) from the power steering gear.

  6. Object Number: 183669  Size: SH
  7. Remove the power steering return hose from the power steering pump.

  8. Object Number: 802323  Size: SH
  9. Remove the power steering return hose retainers on the frame.
  10. Remove the power steering return hose from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 802323  Size: SH
  1. Install the power steering return hose to the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 183669  Size: SH
  3. Install the power steering return hose to the power steering pump.

  4. Object Number: 460600  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the power steering return hose (4) to the power steering gear.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering return hose to the power steering gear to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  7. Install the power steering gear heat shield. Refer to Steering Gear Heat Shield Replacement .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  10. Check the power steering system for leaks.
