1

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information

2

Inspect the ambient air temperature sensor for obstructions or improper mounting.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 3

3

Important: An improperly functioning engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor can affect the ambient air temperature reading.

With a scan tool, inspect for current or history codes relating to the ECT in the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 4

4

Important: An improperly functioning vehicle speed sensor (VSS) can affect the ambient air temperature reading.

With a scan tool, inspect for current or history codes relating to the VSS in the powertrain control module (PCM). Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 5

5

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ambient air temperature sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Go to Step 6

6

Test the ambient air temperature sensor resistance. Refer to Sensor Resistance Table .

Does the resistance measure near the Sensor Resistance Table value?

System OK

Go to Step 7

7

Replace the ambient air temperature sensor. Refer to Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?
