Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool, observe the following DIC Switch parameters in the IPC Inputs data list:
  4. • Display Odometer Switch (w/UB7)
    • Display Gage Switch (w/UB7)
    • Display Fuel Switch (w/UB7)
    • English/Metric Switch
    • Reset Switch
  5. Press and release each of the driver information center (DIC) switches (listed above) one at a time.

Does the scan tool display On when each switch is pressed and OFF when each switch is released ?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Does the scan tool display On for any switch when pressed?

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the DIC switch connector.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch circuit and a good ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the suspected DIC Switch parameter.

Does the scan tool display On?

Go to Step 7

Test the signal circuit of the suspect DIC switch for high resistance or for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 11

Test the ground circuit of the DIC switch for high resistance or for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the DIC switch. Refer to Driver Information Display Switch Replacement .

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
