Table 3: Gage Display Range

When the driver information center (DIC) powers up, it displays either DRIVER 1 or DRIVER 2 for 3 seconds. Then the DIC returns to the last display status. The DIC has personalization features for 2 drivers. For more information on the personalization features, refer to Personalization Description and Operation in Personalization.

There are 5 buttons on the DIC:

    • Odo/Trip
    • Fuel
    • Gage
    • Reset
    • E/M

Odo/Trip

Pressing the Odo/Trip switch displays one of 2 screens:

    • The season odometer and the trip A odometer
    • The season odometer and the trip B odometer

Season Odometer

The IPC determines vehicle season odometer mileage based on the vehicle speed signal (VSS) data from the PCM. The IPC displays the calculated amount on the IPC/DIC. If a season odometer malfunction is detected by the IPC, the DIC displays ERROR. The DIC will display season odometer information in units corresponding with the English/Metric selection.

Trip A and Trip B

The IPC determines vehicle trip odometer mileage based on the vehicle speed signal (VSS) data from the PCM. Trip information is not required to be retained when the battery is disconnected. The trip odometer displays accumulated mileage/km to tenths of a mile/km since the last reset. The DIC will display trip odometer information in units corresponding with the English/Metric selection. The trip odometer may be reset by pressing and holding the RESET button on the DIC switch for 1 second.

Fuel

Pressing the Fuel switch displays the following information:

Average Fuel Economy (AFE)

AFE is calculated using AFE=Distance/Fuel:

    • Distance=The accumulated distance since the last AFE reset
    • Fuel=The accumulated fuel consumption since the last AFE reset

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM regarding fuel usage information. The distance information is calculated by the IPC. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English and metric by using the English/Metric DIC switch. The AFE mode can be reset by pressing and holding the Reset button on the DIC switch for one second.

Instantaneous Fuel Economy (IFE)

Instantaneous fuel economy is calculated using IFE=Distance/Fuel:

    • Distance=The accumulated distance since last update
    • Fuel=The accumulated fuel delivered since last update

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM regarding fuel usage information. The distance information is calculated by the IPC. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English and metric by using the English/Metric DIC switch. The IFE mode cannot be reset.

Fuel Range

This message indicates estimated distance the vehicle can travel under current fuel economy and fuel level conditions since the last reset. Fuel Range is calculated using Fuel Range=Distance Sum/Fuel Sum:

    • Distance Sum = The estimated distance since last update
    • Fuel Sum = The estimated fuel delivered since last update

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM regarding fuel usage. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English and metric by using the English/Metric switch. The Fuel Range mode cannot be reset.

Fuel Used

The IPC calculates and displays the total amount of fuel used since the last reset. Fuel used is equal to the fuel sum.

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM regarding fuel usage. The value of this mode is retained during ignition OFF and can be changed between English and metric by using the English/Metric DIC switch. The Fuel Used mode can be reset by pressing and holding the Reset button on the DIC switch for one second.

Gage

Pressing the Gage switch displays the following information:

Oil Pressure

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM for oil pressure data. The oil pressure DIC message corresponds with the IPC LOW OIL PRESSURE indicator. When the IPC indicator is off, the DIC displays NORMAL. When the IPC indicator is illuminated, the DIC displays LOW.

Coolant Temp

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM for coolant temperature data. The low coolant temperature DIC message corresponds with the engine coolant temperature gage. When the gage indicates normal coolant temperature, the DIC displays NORMAL and the coolant temperature value. When the gage indicates high coolant temperature, the DIC displays COOLANT TEMP HOT and the coolant temperature value.

Battery Volts

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the BCM for battery voltage data. The battery DIC message corresponds with the battery indicator. When the indicator is off, the DIC displays NORMAL and the actual battery voltage (10.5-16 V). When the battery indicator is illuminated because the voltage is less than 10.5 V, the DIC displays LOW and the battery voltage value. When the battery indicator is illuminated because the voltage is greater than 16 V, the DIC displays HIGH and the battery voltage value.

Tire Pressure

The IPC receives a class 2 message from the ABS module for front and rear tire pressure data. If all 4 tires have proper air pressure the DIC displays NORMAL. If there is a tire with low air pressure the DIC displays LOW: CHECK TIRES. The tire pressure status can be reset by pressing and holding the Reset switch for at least 5 seconds.

Oil Life Remaining

Oil life left % is based on the information the DIC receives via class 2 from the PCM. The DIC displays the current % of the GM Oil Life System. When the oil life left % drops below 10%, the DIC displays CHANGE OIL. If the oil life left % is above 10%, the DIC displays NORMAL. When the engine oil is changed the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator needs to be cleared from the DIC and the oil life left % needs to be reset. Press and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds until 100% is displayed.

Other Display Messages

The DIC is capable of displaying the following warning messages:

    • CHANGE OIL SOON
    • DOOR AJAR
    • LOW OIL LEVEL
    • LOW WASHER FLUID
    • SERVICE STABILITY SYSTEM
    • STABILITY SYSTEM ACTIVE
    • TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ACTIVE
    • TRUNK AJAR

For a description of these indicators refer to Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation .
