Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Turn ON the headlamps.
  3. Turn the headlamp dimmer switch ON and OFF.

Does the high beam indicator operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Do the high beam headlamps operate properly?

Go to Step 4

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn ON the high beam headlamps.
  4. With the scan tool, observe the Highbeam Switch Input parameter in the instrument panel cluster (IPC) inputs data list.

Does the data parameter display ON?

Go to Step 7

  1. Disconnect the IPC.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the high beam indicator control circuit and ground.
  3. Turn ON the high beam headlamps.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 10

Test the high beam indicator control circuit for an open, high resistance or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Inspect for poor connections at the high beam indicator bulb and socket. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the lamp control module (LCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Replace the high beam indicator bulb. Refer to Instrument Cluster Bulb Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  2. Turn ON the high beam headlamps.

Does the high beam indicator illuminate?

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Replace the IPC. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
