Did you review the Seat Belt System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Monitor the fasten safety belt indicator while buckling and unbuckling the driver seat belt. The fasten safety belt indicator should turn OFF when buckled and turn ON when unbuckled.

Does the system operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Buckle the driver seat belt.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Belt Status parameter in the SIR scan tool data list.

Does the scan tool indicate that the Driver Belt Status parameter displays Buckled?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the seat belt indicator control circuit connector from the body control module (BCM). Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
  2. Test the seat belt indicator control circuit for a open or a short to voltage.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the seat belt switch - LF connector.
  3. Test the seat belt switch - LF signal circuit for an open or high resistance.

Test the seat belt switch - LF ground circuit for an open or high resistance.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 8

Replace the seat belt switch - LF. The seat belt switch is part of the seat belt buckle and cannot be serviced separately. Refer to Seat Belt Buckle Replacement - Left Front .

  1. Reconnect all seat belt components.
  2. Monitor the fasten safety belt indicator while buckling and unbuckling the driver seat belt. The fasten safety belt indicator should turn OFF when buckled and turn ON when unbuckled.

Does the system operate properly?

System OK
