Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Press the OnStar® Call Center button.
  3. Ask the OnStar® operator to configure the OnStar® system.

Does the OnStar® operator advise the caller the OnStar® system cannot be configured?

Test the ignition 1 voltage circuit for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the Vehicle Communications Unit (VCU).
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Measure the voltage from the ignition ON signal circuit to a good ground.

Does the voltage measure near the specified value?

12 V

Test the ignition ON signal circuit for an open or short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the VCU. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the Vehicle Interface Unit (VIU). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
