Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Caution in the Preface section.
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Remove the yellow connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P
module from the yellow connector (1) on the vehicle harness.
- Remove the yellow connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P
module from the I/P bracket (3).
- Remove the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages
and Console.
- Note the wire harness routing position in order to assist in re-assembly.
- Push the yellow connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P module
away from the I/P (3).
- Remove the inflatable restraint I/P module
mounting fasteners (2).
Important: When removing the inflatable restraint I/P module (3), do not damage
the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail (4).
- Remove the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) from the I/P (1).
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under
warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period.
Refer to
Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping
.
Installation Procedure
Important: When installing the inflatable restraint I/P module (3), do not damage
the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail (4).
- Route the inflatable restraint I/P module pigtail (4) down through the
I/P (1).
- Install the inflatable restraint I/P module (3) to the I/P (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the mounting fasteners (2) to the inflatable restraint I/P module.
Tighten
Tighten the fasteners to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Route the wiring harness (2) to the inflatable restraint I/P module in
place in order to secure the yellow connector clip to the I/P (3).
- Install the I/P upper trim pad. Refer to
Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages
and Console.
- Clip the yellow connector (2) on
the inflatable restraint I/P module to the I/P bracket (3).
- Install the yellow connector (2) on the inflatable restraint I/P
module to the yellow connector (1) on the vehicle harness.
- Install the CPA (4) to the inflatable restraint I/P module connector (2).
- Install the right insulator panel. Refer to
Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement - Right Side
in Instrument
Panel, Gages and Console.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
