Notice: Refer to Machined Surface Damage Notice in the Preface section.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Inspect all components or sub-components and perform any repair procedure necessary to fix the damage. If the damage cannot be repaired, replace the component or sub-component as indicated.
  2. Clean the retainer assembly in cleaning solvent and air dry.
  3. Remove any sealant from the sealing surface.

Transfer Case Rear Output Shaft Rear Bearing Retainer Assembly

Tip
Inspect for cracks, breakage, or other damage. The component must be replaced if damage is found.

Transfer Case Extension Bushing

Tip

    • Replace the bushing if it is damaged or worn. Refer to Transfer Case Disassemble and Transfer Case Assemble .
    • If the bushing is removed, inspect the transfer case extension bushing bore for signs of spinning. Replace the retainer assembly if the bushing is spun.

Transfer Case Locating Pin Holes

Tip
Replace the retainer assembly if the locating pin holes are out of round or damaged.

Vehicle Speed Sensor Threads

Tip
Inspect the vehicle speed sensor threads for damage. Replace the retainer assembly if damage is found.

Transfer Case Rear Output Shaft Rear Bearing Retainer Assembly Sealing Surface

Tip
Repair small scratches or nicks with a soft stone.
