Verify that the midgate latch release is inoperative.

Does the midgate latch release operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  5. Activate the midgate latch release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit and the ground circuit of the appropriate midgate latch electrical connector.
  2. Activate the midgate latch release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the battery positive voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 21

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Connect the left and right midgate latch electrical connectors.
  3. Disconnect the midgate latch release switch electrical connector.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. Probe the midgate glass position switch circuit of the midgate latch release switch electrical connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

Connect a test lamp between the midgate glass position switch circuit and the ground circuit of the midgate latch release switch electrical connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the midgate glass full down switch electrical connector.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Probe the midgate relay coil control circuit of the midgate glass full down switch electrical connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

  1. Probe the midgate glass position switch circuit of the midgate latch release switch electrical connector with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.
  2. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper between the midgate relay coil control circuit and the midgate glass position switch circuit of the midgate glass full down switch electrical connector.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 13

Test the midgate relay coil control circuit for a short to ground or an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the appropriate midgate latch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the midgate latch release switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
