FRONT AND REAR RUB STRIPS GAP TO FASCIA REPAIR
Some 1988 Reattas may experience a condition of rub strips gapping to the front and rear bumper bar. Refer to Figure 1. This condition may be caused by the rub strip expanding in hot climatic conditions. To repair this condition, use the following procedures:
1. Remove the front and rear fascia.
2. Remove the front and rear rub strips. Refer to the 1988 Service Manual sections 2B-6 and 2B-9.
3. File the raised rib on the fascia between the slotted holes flush with the surface at the corners of the fascia. Refer to Figure 2.
4. Apply clear 3M Super Silicon Sealant, Part Number 8661 or equivalent, to the upper cavity of the rub strip. Refer to Figure 3.
5. Attach rub strip to bumper bar. Make certain that the sealant contacts the bumper bar and fascia. Refer to Figure 4.
6. Wipe clean any access sealant from the fascia and bumper bar.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
