Some 1990 Reatta convertibles built before VIN 1G4EC33C2LB905266 may have rear side roof rail retainers that are secured with point tip screws. These screws may cause punctures through the convertible top stack at the rear screw locations when the top stack is stored in the storage compartment, both sides. To eliminate this condition perform the following:
1. Open the driver's door, open the storage compartment door behind the driver's seat, and operate the rear roof pin release handle by pulling forward and up until pins release.
2. Raise the # five bow 90 DEG (vertical) from the closed position.
3. Turn the ignition key on, and operate the electric storage panel release switch.
4. Raise the storage panel cover to the full open position, and ensure storage panel hinge is locked into the hold open clip.
5. Unlock the top stack from the windshield header and operate the top stack to the midpoint in the storage compartment.
6. Locate the rear screw point on the horizontal side roof rail retainers. Refer to Figure 1.
7. Remove the point end of the retainer screw with Snap-On end cutter tool, P/N 17CP, and/or high leverage diagonal cutter, P/N 388ACP, or equivalent.
8. Remove any sharp surfaces with a fine file.
9. Brush touch bare metal screw surface with 3M black window weld primer.
This operation is to be performed on both sides.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
