STOWAGE PANEL HINGE DAMAGE MODIFY STOWAGE BOLT STUD

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 REATTA CONVERTIBLE

Some 1990 Reatta convertibles built before VIN 1G4EC33C1LB905517 may have storage panel hinge stud interference at the windshield header location which may result in damage to the top stack binder material. To eliminate this condition perform the following:

1. Open the driver's door, open the storage compartment door behind the driver's seat, and operate the rear roof pin release handle by pulling forward and up until pins release.

2. Raise the # five bow 90 DEG (vertical) from the closed position.

3. Turn the ignition key on, and operate the electric storage panel release switch.

4. Raise the storage panel cover to the full open position, and ensure storage panel hinge is locked into the hold open clip.

5. Remove the rubber bumper and bumper extension from the 25mm storage panel stud. Refer to Figure 1 - Storage Panel and Hinge Assembly.

6. With a pair of bolt cutters, or equivalent, remove 5mm (1/4") of the storage bolt stud. In order to ensure sufficient clearance, run a straight edge across the storage hinge as shown in Figure 1. No contact should be made with the straight edge.

7. File the sharp edges and brush touch bare metal stud surface with 3M black window weld primer and reinstall rubber bumper and extension.

8. Repeat the operation for the other hinge stud on the opposite side of the car.

Contact your Buick Motor Division Zone Office for additional information or authorization if the top material has been significantly damaged.

Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition.
