LOOSE PULL STRAP ON DOOR TRIM (INSTALL NEW SHEET METAL CLIP)

SOME 1990 BUICK REATTAS MAY EXPERIENCE A CONDITION WHERE THE PULL STRAP ON THE DOOR PAD MAY BECOME LOOSE. THIS CONDITION MAY BE CAUSED BY INSUFFICIENT RETENTION OF THE RETAINING SCREW TO THE SHEET METAL CLIP. TO REPAIR THIS CONDITION USE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE:

1. REMOVE SEAT SWITCH BEZEL AND TWO SCREWS FROM DOOR PAD.

2. REMOVE DOOR PULL STRAP.

NOTE: TO REMOVE STRAP, USE FLAT-SIDED SCREW TO PULL OUT THE END OF THE VINYL PULL STRAP TUCKED UNDER THE TRIM PLATE. REMOVE RETAINING SCREWS LOCATED UNDER THE VINYL PULL STRAP. DISCARD THESE SCREWS. REFER TO FIGURE 1.

3. REMOVE DOOR HANDLE FINISHING CUP.

4. REMOVE DOOR TRIM PAD.

5. REMOVE BOTH SHEET METAL CLIPS FROM DOOR INNER THAT RETAIN THE DOOR PULL STRAP AND DISCARD.

NOTE: IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO PUSH ASIDE THE LOCK ROD MODULE WHEN REMOVING AND INSTALLING THE MOST FORWARD SHEET METAL CLIP. REFER TO FIGURE 2.

6. INSTALL NEW SHEET METAL CLIPS, P/N 15650630.

7. REINSTALL DOOR PAD.

8. REINSTALL DOOR PULL STRAP USING NEW SCREWS, P/N 11503796. TORQUE TO 5 N.M (44 LBS. IN.).

9. REINSTALL REMAINING PARTS.

10. REPEAT PROCEDURE ON OTHER DOOR.

PARTS ARE CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FROM GMSPO.

FOR WARRANTY PURPOSES USE LABOR OPERATION T6494 AT .7 HOUR FOR THE RIGHT AND T6495 AT .7 HOUR FOR THE LEFT.
