EXTENDED CRANK TIME (NEW PART)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: SOME 1989 AND EARLY 1990 C, E, H MODELS EQUIPPED W/3800 (VIN CODE C)

Some 1989 through early built 1990 models equipped with the 3800 engine (VIN Code C), may exhibit a condition of a cold engine long crank, but if the ignition key is cycled, the engine will start.

If this condition is experienced on a vehicle with good fuel pressure and the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, it may be necessary to install a new service Mem-Cal with a recalibrated fuel multiplier ratio during cranking.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
