The proper installation of 4.1L, V-6 engine head gaskets is critical in eliminating oil leaks. The installation of 4.1L head gaskets should be made with the part number of the gasket down (facing engine block). See Illustration for location of part number.
The installation procedure (Step 2), given on Page 6A1-5 of the 1982 Regal, LeSabre, Electra and Riviera Chassis Service Manual is still correct for the 3.8L, V-6 engine. This procedure is also good for 4.1L, V-6 engines by placing the gasket with the part number down, facing the engine block.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
