DIESEL MAIN BEARING BOLT TORQUE SPECIFICATION

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1982 Passenger Cars With V6 Diesel Engines (Codes T, V)

The main bearing bolt torque is specified as 145 N.m (107 ft. lbs.) in the 1982 Model Service Manuals.

This has been changed and is now 120 N.m (89 ft. lbs. ). Please make this change in the 1982 'A' and 'X' Car Service Manual, Page 6A7-31 and in the 'B' and 'G' Car Service Manual, Page 6A6-42.

Care must be exercised not to over torque or under torque these bolts.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
