A few comments have been received where the 2-3 throttle valve spring was broken in the control valve assembly, which is used in the 1984 THM 200C "BH" & "OI" model transmission.
This condition can cause a second gear start, third gear start, no third gear or erratic shifts.
If this condition is experienced, remove the control valve assembly. Remove the 2-3 valve parts as shown in the 1984 Classis Service Manual, page 20OC-45, Fig. 20OC-179, items 5 through 8. The 2-3 T.V. spring is item #7. Thoroughly clean the control valve assembly. Install the new 2-3 T.V. spring and other parts as per service manual instructions. As the spring is not presently provided separately by WDDGM, contact your Zone Office and they will provide the part.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
