The condition of indicator light bleed-through from adjacent ranges may be experienced on some vehicles equipped with shift console. If a comment is received, adjustments can be optimized using the following procedure:
1. Remove the shift handle and retainer, ash tray and trim plate assembly.
2. Loosen the four screws holding the console, two in glove box, two under trim plate.
3. Put the shift lever in reverse and remove the lash towards neutral.
4. Turn the park lights on.
5. Slide the console forward and backward until the light stops bleeding into neutral.
6. Position the console (usually to the right) so that as much as possible of the light opening in the pointer coincides with window in the dial.
7. Tighten the four console retainer screws.
8. Position the shift lever into each detent and check for adequate illumination and no bleed-through. If bleed-through still occurs in 1 to 2 and/or 2 to D perform steps nine through eleven. If no bleed-through, reinstall shift handle and retainer; ash tray and trim plate assembly.
9. Remove the four console screws.
10. Install 10mm thick shims at the console rear attaching screws.
11. Perform steps three through eight.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
