CAMPAIGN: INCORRECT CHASSIS WHEEL JACK WRENCH HANDLE

Models: 1983 Regals

General Motors has determined that some 1983 Regals vere shipped from the assembly plant with incorrect jack wrench handles. The wrench on these handles will not fit the wheel lug nuts which would prevent removal of the wheel and tire assembly with this wrench. To avoid this condition, new jack handles are to be stowed in vehicles involved. Refer to illustration.

Since a jack handle can be stowed very eaily, and because we do not want to cause owners unnecessary inconvenience, the correct jack handles are being furnished directly to affected owners of record. Owners may stow them personally or they may request dealer assistance for installation. This service is to be done at no charge to owners.

If your dealership has vehicles involved in this Campaign, you will receive a VIN listing of vehicles, and a jack handle for each vehicle for which there is no owner of record. If a vehicle has been recently delivered, and the owner's name is not on your VIN listing, please contact the owner to have the jack handle changed. It is your responsibility to see that the jack handles are changed on these vehicles.

VEHICLES INVOLVED

Certain 1983 Regals assembled at Flint with serial number from DH865978 up to and including DH866332.

OWNER NOTIFICATION

As stated previously, owners of record are being notifted of this Campaign and sent the correct part. A copy of the owner letter is included with this bulletin.

SHIPMENT OF PARTS

The correct quantity of jack handles are being shipped to each dealer on a no charge basis (only for VINs on your list with no owner name). They will not be billed on dealer parts account. Dealers should not order from WDDGM. If transfers make additional parts necessary, contact your Zone Office.

The jack handles are to be changed in vehicles involved. The replaced parts are to be properly tagged with the vehicle information and retained for scrapping by Buick contact personnel. Dear Buick Owner:

General Motors has determined that some 1983 Regals were shipped from the assembly plant with incorrect jack wrench handles. The wrench on these handles will not fit the wheel lug nuts which would prevent removal of the wheel and tire assembly with this wrench. To correct this condition, the new jack handle is being furnished for your Regal. Refer to the illustration on the reverse side of this letter to identify the correct jack handle.

Since a jack handle can be easily stowed and because we do not want to cause you any inconvenience, the new handle has been sent directly to you. You may want to stow the new jack handle yourself or return your vehicle to your dealer for this change. Your dealer will be plessed to make this change at no charge to you.

If you prefer to stow the new jack handle yourself, refer to the jack instruction label located at the jack storage ares of your vehicle. This label is also shown on Pages 3-8 and 3-9 of the 1983 Regal Owners Manual. Please dispose of the incorrect jack handle.

If you stow the new handle, rather than asking your dealer, or if you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the enclosed postage paid owner reply card and returning it to us. This will assist us in assuring that all affected vehicles have been corrected and will eliminate the need to bother you with follow-up notifications.

We are sorry to cause you this inconventence; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products. We appreciate your assistance.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
