THREAD LOCKING TBI SERVICE LOCTITE 262 APPLICATION

Models Affected: Throttle Body Injection Equipped Vehicles

There are a variety of procedures involving TBI servicing where threadlocking materials have been found to be desirable. For these applications, Buick has recommended the use of Loctite 262, or equivalent. Recently, the manufacturer of Loctite has changed the labeling of Threadlocker 262, and this has caused some concern. Although the compound has not been changed, the description "PERMANENT" and the term "Non Service Removable" conveys the impression that any parts, once coated with the compound, would be joined forever.

For the applications involving TBI screws, the diameter of the screws, the material into which they are driven, and the length of these screws, are situations involving the use of this high strength material that could be considered permanent, TBI screws which have been coated with the compound can be removed without damage, if necessary.
