The 1988 Regal uses a two piece composite brake rotor on both the front and rear of the vehicle. The rotor face is iron, while the center hub "Hat" portion is steel. The composite brake rotor design is lighter weight and provides better heat protection for the bearing than conventional one piece rotors.
The servicing of the composite rotor is the same as a one piece rotor; however, to improve finishing dimensions of the rotor and to prevent the possibility of the center "hub" flexing when turning on a brake lathe, it requires the use of an adapter tool, J 37160. This tool is an essential tool for the 1988 Regal and is a part of the 1988 Essential Tool package.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
