LIMITED INSTALLATION OF ABS PARTS AND SERVICE DESCRIBED

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 REGAL

During the 1988 model year, a small number of Buick Regals will be equipped with an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) designed by Delco Moraine. This system will be identified by the option code JL9 and will be monitored by the Delco Moraine ABS group during the 1988 model year (October 1, 1987, through September 30, 1988).

Owners of these vehicles have been instructed to report any ABS problems or qestions directly to the Delco Moraine ABS group during the 1988 model year. After the 1988 model year, any ABS problem should be resolved at a Buick dealership. During the time frame noted above, the Delco Moraine ABS group will review all reported ABS problems and perform all necessary diagnosis, parts replacements or repairs to these vehicles.

Dealers are NOT to perform any ABS service on these vehicles (10-1-87 through 9-30-88), but are to contact the Delco Moraine ABS group at (313) 685-4230.

Dealers should contact the Delco Moraine ABS Group if there is any doubt as to whether a problem on the subject JL9 vehicles is ABS related or a base brake system problem.

Since ABS is an entire vehicle system, it affects other parts on the vehicle not necessarily directly related to brake system operation (an example is windshield washer bottle). These parts are also designated with the JL9 option code in the parts book. If one of these parts requires replacement, it will be available through GMSPO. Any dealer orders for these parts with the JL9 option code will be reviewed by GMSPO to ensure that the vehicle involved is equipped with a Delco Moraine ABS. The VIN of the car will be used to confirm its exact brake system and that the replacement parts ordered are correct.

Dealers are requested NOT to order any JL9 parts for stocking purposes only. This will help ensure parts availability at GMSPO when a replacement part is needed by one of these vehicles.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
