FUEL GAGE DISPLAY (EXPLANATION) WITH UB3 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER
Customers may comment that the 1/4 tank expansion mode fuel display malfunctions.
The spacing between the indicator segments is greater on the 1/4 tank expansion mode display than on the normal mode full tank display (See Illustration). Also, customers do not always distinguish between the small, lower reference segments and the large, upper indicator segments. They may think segments are burned out or that the gage is inoperative.
The 1/4 tank display is made up of five small, lower reference segments and five large, upper indicator segments. As fuel is consumed, the upper segments blank out but the lower reference segments do not. The triangular, orange warning light illuminates when the fourth indicator segment in the expansion mode turns off.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
