ENGINE NOISE IN THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 REGALS

This bulletin has been revised to provide an additional procedure (Step C), that will involve replacement of the existing engine torque struts with new struts. This revision replaces Buick bulletin 88-6-27 which should be discarded.

Customers may comment about high engine noise level in the passenger compartment, especially on medium to heavy acceleration. This concern may be addressed by performing the following three procedures: Fill up the rear portion of the upper motor compartment rail with foam. (Both sides).

Step A

1. Remove forward hood hinge bolt (13mm) and center fender splash panel (fender skirt).

2. Stick a piece of material (shop rag, towelling or equivalent) through 2" X 2" slot in the rail to block flow of foam in the forward direction (See Figure 1).

3. Install expandable foam (insulating sealant by Polycel (R) or equivalent) through hinge hole. Fill up the rail until it starts coming out from hinge hole. Clean the access foam and install hinge bolt.

4. Take out piece of material after foam settles (Approximately 10 minutes).

5. Install fender splash panel.

6. Perform same procedure on the other side.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
